Crew races at Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, PA - La Salle University Men's and Women's crew teams competed in their second race of the fall season on Philadelphia's Schuylkill River on Saturday October 15. Both teams participated in the Navy Day Regatta; a 4000-meter head race down river.

The first race of the day was the men's Novice Eight, and La Salle's boat contained Zach Coons, Pete Berenotto, Bryan Schwartz, Matt Bateman, Rob Thomas, Tom McGoldrick, Paul LaPolla, Brett Fair and coxswain Nicole Caronia. They finished in a time of 14:49.30, good for 15th place - out of 22 - with the United States Naval Academy taking first place in a time of 13:30.60.

In the second race of the day, the women's Novice Eight, La Salle's boat consisted of Lauren Corkery, Shannon Haley, Lauren Hokrein, Michelle Kukawski, Kristin Weimer, Sarah Brown, Dani Fralen, Delia Spellman and coxswain Colleen Green. They stroked their way to a third place finish - out of 14 boats - in a time of 15:53.20, just 1.30 seconds behind second-place St. Joseph's. The winner of the race was Penn in a time of 15:06.60.

The men's JV Eight comprised of Mark Ricciardi, Sean Ahern, Joe Scibetta, Rob Quinn, Ryan Fair, Paul DeGrazia, Mike Rockwood, Matt Tiedeken and coxswain Francesca Cupo raced next for the Explorers. They finished fourth with a time of 14:37.00, as the United States Naval Academy won the event in a time of 13:06.60.

Next was the women's JV Eight containing Michelle DeLong, Patrice Girard, Becky Mahney, Kellie Nadeau, Andrea Bacchus, Rita Brown, Jenn Sammartino, Jessie Lindsay and coxswain Christina Spino.  They finished with a time of 16:36.30 behind first place United States Naval Academy who finished with a time of 14:45.90.

The men's Club Four raced next and contained Tim Brocchus, Matt Sitcoske, Terry DeAngelo, Fiachra Malone and coxswain Christine Denshuick. They finished with a time of 24:56.50, behind first-place Naval Academy who finished with a time of 15:25.60.

The last two races of the day were the men's and women's college Eights. The men's boat contained Blaine Kneeshaw, Tim Brocchus, Bill Lockard, Jeff Laird, Terrance McClain, Matt Loftus, Adam Sutkus, James Keough and coxswain Sarah Jones. The men finished with a time of 13:59.80 behind first place United States Naval Academy who finished with a time of 12:35.30.

The women's College Eight comprised of Lauren Corkery, Aimee Nichols, Shauna Goetz, Therese Pomeroy, Michelle Kukawski, Shannon Haley, Liz McGrain, Jessie Lamont and coxswain Frankie Lamont finished with a time of 16:04.10 behind first place United States Naval Academy who won first place with a time of 14:27.90.
