Kushman and Judge Lead Offense and Defense in 3-0 Loss to Dayton

Jackie Kushman Posted a Double-Double (13 kills, 10 digs) against Dayton

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle Explorer volleyball team hosted the Dayton Flyers Friday evening at Tom Gola Arena in an Atantic 10 match.  The Flyers put a 6-1 conference record on the line and came out a winner, 3-0, by scores of 30-18, 30-22, 30-25.  The Explorers now stand at 9-15 overall and 0-8 in the conference, while Dayton improves to 14-9 and 7-1.

In the opening game, the Dayton Flyers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Explorers rallied quickly and took a 4-3 lead in the game. After trading the next few points, the Flyers wen on a six point run to take a 7-13 lead,  La Salle senior Kara Branz knocked down a kill to halt the run.  The Flyers extended their lead to nine points at 20-11 and then pushed the lead to 10 at 17-27.  The Explorers hit a dismal -.021 in the game as Dayton took the game 30-18.

The Explorers got the opening point in game two, but the Flyers again went on a run, outscoring La Salle 13-6 to take a 13-7 lead.  The Explorer scould not recover from the deficit and lost the second game 30-22.

In the third and final game of the match, the Explorers attempted a come back and after falling behind early, the Explorers got to within four at 13-9, 12-15 and 13-7.  At that point, the Flyers scored the next four points and forced La Salle to take a time out to regroup.  The Explorers scored the next point, but Dayton answered and went on to claim the game 30-25.

La salle freshman Jackie Kushman turned in a match-high performance with 10 kills.  Kushman also recorded a double-double in the match with 10 digs to her credit.  Setter Caitlin Conner tallied 27 assists out of 35 La Salle kills in the contest.

Sophomore Erin Sullivan scored two points with service aces and added two digs on defense.  The team and Atlantic 10 leader in digs, Carolyn Judge tied Dayton's Adrienne Green for a match-high 22 digs.

At the net, the trio of Abby Means, Stephanie Owen and Branz contributed three asissted blocks each.

On the other side of the net, Dayton'[s Robynne Green earned 14 kills and Faye Barhorst ended the match with 12 kills to lead the Flyers.

The Explorers will be back on the court at Tom Gola Arena on Saturday, when they take on the Xavier Musketeers at 5:00 p.m.
