Split Decision With George Washington and James Madison

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The women's swimming posted a split decision on Saturday afternoon at Kirk Pool, defeating George Washington 59-54 and falling to James Madison 65.50 - 47.50.  The Explorers are now 1-2 on the season.

Jamie Polek swam to two first place finishes for the Explorers.  The first coming in the 1000 freesytle event, crossing the finish line in 10:34.33, more than 10 seconds faster than second place finisher Rebecca Shofield (10:44.72) of James Madison.  Polek's other win came in the 500 yard free, scoring a victory in 5:11.23, just over two seconds faster than teammate Ashley Young who crossed the finish line in a time of 5:13.25.

Rachel Sheridan also scored two first place finishes, with the first coming in the 200 freestyle.  Sheridan finished with a 1:58.60, outpacing James Madison's Meghan Heil in second place with 1:59.47.  Polek came in third in the event with a 1:59.79.   In the 100 freestyle, Sheridan took first after swimming a 55.18, crossing the line before George Washington's Laura Myers (55.48).

For the second time in as many days, diver Ktie Gifford swept the diving competition, finishing 50 points ahead of George Washington's Alicia Moulton in the 1-meter.  Gifford finished with 260.05, while Moulton posted a final of 210.05.  In the 3-meter event, Gifford scored a 276.65, well ahead of James Madison's Ali Miller who finished in second with a 206.35.

Up next for the Explorer will be CW Post.  The Explorers will host the team at Kirk pool on November 4th at 4:00 p.m.
