- La Salle University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Dr. Thomas Brennan has announced that Dr. John Giannini has received a contract extension that would lock him in as the Explorers head men's basketball coach through 2010.

 

"I think the leadership he displayed last season is a strong indication of how good of a coach John is and how good for the program he will be," said Brennan in reference to Giannini's short-handed Explorers who exceeded most people's expectations in his first season.

 

"Dr. John isn't just a good basketball coach, he is a person of great substance and someone whom we are proud to have leading our student-athletes," Brennan continued.

 

Giannini led the Explorers to a school-record for Atlantic 10 road wins, notched his 300^th career coaching win and a defeat of Southern California - the school's first win over a PAC-10 opponent in nearly 20 years.

 

The Explorers 2005-06 season will get underway on November 20^th when they travel to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County for a 6:00 PM tip-off.
