Posted by: Sue SennerKINGSTON, RI - In its seventh Atlantic 10 contest of the season, the La Salle Explorers volleyball team faced the Rhode Island Rams at Keaney Gymnasium Sunday afternoon. In the end, the Exploers are still searching for their first conference win after falling 3-0, by scored of 30-17, 30-18, 30-18 to the Rams. La Salle now stands at 7-13 and 0-6, while the Rams improve to 6-12 and get their first A-10 win to stand at 1-4.
La Salle junior Kristen Kelsey led all players with 12 kills and posted a double-double with 16 digs. Senior Abby Means contributed eight kills to the Explorers' offense. Setter Caitlin Conner assisted on 38 Explorer kills in the match.
On defense, libero Carolyn Judge turned in another consistent peformance with a match-high 17 digs.
At the net, senior Kara Branz assisted on three blocks while pairing up with Stephanie Owen, Means and Conner.
Rhode Island's Ivy Zuidhof totaled 11 kills to lead the Rams. Zuidhof also was a force on defense with three solo blocks. Inga Schlecht tallied 30 assists and landed six kills on eight attempts for a .750 hitting percentage.
On defense, Rachel Bello posted 12 digs with Joanna Mitchell tallying 11 and Leslie Wiekamp adding 10 in the Rams' win.
The Explorers will return to the court on Tuesday, October 11th when they travel to Delware to take on the Blue Hens in a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m.
