Posted by: Sue SennerSt. Bonaventure, NY - The La Salle University women's swimming and diving team traveled to St. Bonaventure to compete against the Bonnie at the Reilly Center on Saturday afternoon. The Explorers struggled, falling 172-71 to St. Bonaventure. The Explorers now hold a 2-3 record for the season.
Freshman Carleen Caldwell recorded one of two first place finishes for the Explorers. For the second week in a row, Caldwell captured first place in the 50 free event, finishing in a time of 25.22.
Diver Katie Gifford finished the meet scoring 13 points for the Explorers, taking first place in the 3-meter diving event with 238.35 points, finishing ahead of St. Bonaventure's Keri Veto with 224.25. In the 1-meter event Gifford tallied 222.15, just over six points behind Veto with 228.58.
Jamie Polek turned in a solid performance with two second place finishes, on in the 1000 free with a time of 10:46.06 and in the 500 free with a time of 5:20.11. Polek also added three points with a third place finish in the 200 free (2:00.39). Teammate Ashley Young also made a strong showing with three third place finishes. Young finished behind Polek in the 1000 free in a time of 11:03.25 and again in the 500 free with a time of 5:24.70. Young placed behind Carrie Houck (2:12.87) in the 200 butterfly with a third place time of 2:15.65.
Mallory Kessler also added four points with a second place finish in the 200 individiual medley in a time of 2:19.15.
The Explorers will be back in action next Saturday, November 19th, when they take on Rider and Delaware in a tri-meet at 12:00 p.m.
