Posted by: Marc MullenPHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle University Crew team, competing in its final races of the season at the Frostbite Regatta (all 2,000-meter races) Saturday on the Schuylkill River, had two boats win heats, and four boats in all place in the top five of events.
In the College Frosh/Novice Eight event, the women took second overall out of 19 boats, as they won their heat in 7:56.97, but were defeated by Saint Joseph's, who won in 7:43.25. On the men's side, they took fifth out of 24 boats, but finished second in their heat (7:15.87), behind eventual winner Marietta (6:53.16).
In the College Varsity Eight, again the Explorer women won their heat in a time of 7:50.22, but finished fifth out of 15 boats, with Dowling taking first in 7:28.46. In the men's event, the Explorer boat took fourth in their heat, 12th out of 17 boats, in a time of 6:57.51, as Temple won the event in 6:12.33.
In the College Frosh/Novice Four races, the women took fourth out of 16 boats, taking second in their heat (8:51.69) to the winner Lafayette (8:13.07). The men were 10th out of 24 boats, finishing in 8:07.08. The winner was Loyola in 7:10.66.
The College Varsity Four Division saw the men take eighth out of 16 boats, fourth in their heat. They stopped the clock in 7:54.18, while New York Maritime won the event in 7:27.37. The women were 11th out of 17, finishing in 9:10.65, with Lafayette taking first in 8:18.79.
In the College Jr. Varsity races, the Explorer men took sixth in a time of 7:03.85.
