PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle University Women's Basketball team announced today it has signed five players who will join the Explorers next season to National Letters-of-Intent. The crop, which includes out-of-area recruits from Texas and New Hampshire, is comprised of three forwards who are 6-foot or taller, and two guards.

The tallest of the newcomers is Chelsea Conner, a 6-3 forward out of Gloucester City, NJ, who averaged a double-double last season for Gloucester High School, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds a game.

Danielle Mickiewicz, a 6-2 forward from Jackson, NJ, came close to the same thing for Jackson High School last year, scoring 14 points a contest and collecting nine boards a game.

Out of Amarillo, TX, Morgan Robertson is a 6-0 forward, who averaged 11 points and eight boards last season for Amarillo High School. Over the past two seasons, Robertson has led Amarillo to a 51-11 record, which includes two District 2-5A Championships.

Shelly Szmyt, a 5-10 guard from Pelham, NH (Central Catholic HS), enjoyed a successful junior season, gaining accolades from the Merrimac Valley Conference (All-Star), and the Lowell Sun (First Team All-Star), while she averaged 12 points, five rebounds and three assists a game and led her team to the state semifinals.

Lastly, Jamie Walsh is a 5-8 point guard from Downingtown, PA, who has averaged 13 points and six assists over the past two seasons for Downingtown East High School. As a junior last season, Walsh led the team to the Chesmont League Championship, the District 1 Championship, and the final four of the state tournament.

La Salle opened its season last weekend at the Image Depot Shootout in Tampa, Florida. They defeated Tennessee-Martin, 72-55, Saturday and lost 60-54 to Texas-Arlington Sunday.
