Posted by: Sue SennerLEWISBURG, PA - The La Salle Explroers women's swimming and diving team competed at the Bucknell Sprints on Saturday with American, St. Francis (PA), Villanova and host Bucknell in an unscored meet.
Diver Katie Gifford recorded La Salle's only first place finish of the meet in the 1-meter event, outscoring Villanova's Lindsay Davis 273.60 to 260.85. In the 3-meter event, Davis turned the tables on Gifford, taking the first spot with 255.90 and Gifford finishing in a close second with 257.30.
It was two second place finished for Carleen Caldwell, who finished by Bucknell's Rebeca Sheffter in both the 100 free and the 50 free. In the 100 event, Caldwell corssed the finsih line in a time of 54.37 behind Sheffter's 53.23 and in the 50 event, Caldwell posted a time of 25.01 compated to Sheffter's 24.80.
Melanie Charles earned a third place finish in the 50 back with a tim of 30.16 behind Bucknell's Lectie Althen (25.94) and American's Michelle Risinger (30.14).
In the 200 free, Jamie Polek turned in a La Salle best time of 1:57.84, good for a third place finish. Polek finished behind American's Meghan Thiel with took the top spot with a time of 1:55.79.
The Explorers will be back in action on Saturday, November 12th when travel to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies for a 12:00 meet.
