Posted by: Shawn SweeneyWASHINGTON, DC - The La Salle men's soccer (6-9-4, 3-4-2 Atlantic 10) team finished out its schedule by suffering a 3-0 loss to George Washington (6-8-3, 3-5-1). The Explorers will play the waiting game to see if they will qualify for the A-10 Championship, depending on how the rest of the conference games finish tomorrow.
All of the Colonials' goals came in a three-minute span. In the 51st minute, Frank Ambrosio found the back of the net for an unassisted goal. Then, in the 53rd minute, Ambrosio setup teammate Abimbola Pedro to make the score 2-0. Pedro struck again 18 seconds later, this time with an assist credited to Arturo Pedroso.
La Salle goalkeeper made three saves between the pipes. Keeper Derek Biss stopped five shots for the Colonials, who edged the Explorers in the shots category, 13-12.
The loss drops La Salle to eighth place in the A-10 standings, with a .444 winning percentage. The top six teams in the conference advance to the playoffs in St. Louis. Charlotte, Temple and Massachusetts have .500 winning percentages, and are currently tied for fifth place. Tomorrow, Charlotte hosts Duquesne, Temple hosts Dayton, and UMass visits St. Bonaventure, all at 1:00 p.m.
