Posted by: Sue SennerBuffalo, NY - At the end of the third day of competition at the Atlantic 10 swimming and diving championship, the La Salle Explorers men's team continues to hold on to third place. The Explorers have tallied 301 points, behind the leader Massachusetts (510) and the second place St. Bonaventure Bonnies (423.50).
Sophomore Sean Connors-McBride led the way for the Explorers, finishing in the second place in the 200 freestyle event in a time of 1:40.90. Connors-McBride earned 17 points for the Explorers with that finish. Freshman John Welsh added 15 points in the event with his fourth place performance (1:42.13), followed by Emir Hubijar's 14 points in 5th place (1:42.37).
In the 400 individual medley, Grant Chin tallied 12 points for his seventh place finish in a time of 4:06.19.
La Salle earned a total of 17 points in the 100 back stroke event, with Frank Eaton's 8th place finish (52.83) and Mike Ellerson's 11th place finish (52.85).
The 400 medley relay team of Eaton, Tom Smyth, Connors-McBride and Welsh rallied for 30 points in their fourth place finish with a time of 3:26.41.
The Explorers also competed in the 100 butterfly and the 100 breast stroke.
The Atlantic 10 Championships will conclude Saturday, with preliminary races in the morning followed by the finals in the evening.
