Men Finish 3rd at Atlantic 10 Championship

BUFFALO, NY - Saturday night marked the final day of competition at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships at the Flickinger Aquatic Center.  The Explorers finished in third place with 473 points.  La Salle finished behind four-time champion Massachusetts who amassed 804 points and second place finisher St. Bonaventure with 652.50 points.  The remainder of the field finished with George Washington in fourth (384), followed by Fordham in fifth (354), Xavier in sixth (306), Duquesne in seventh (270), and Rhode Island in eighth (248.5).

For the second consecutive year, diver Karo Isajan was named the 2005 A-10 Most Outstanding Diving Performer.  His coach, Diane Maise, received men's diving coach of the year honors. Isajan saw gold in the 3-meter diving event, scoring 506.66 points, good for 20 team points.

Sean Connors-McBride captured the gold in the 200 butterfly event and earned 20 points for the Explorers after crossing the finishing line in 1:49.19. 

In the 1650 freestyle event, Emir Hubijar was good for 13 points in his sixth place finish (16:09.43).  Andrew McDonald finished next, in 7th place, with a time of 16:18.79 and earned 12 points.

Frank Eaton finished the 200 back in 1:55.32 and matched Hubijar's 13 points, also with a 6th place finsih.  Mike Ellerson swam in the B group and finished 10th with a time of 1:54.14.

In the 100 free, John Welsh crossed the finish in 46.88 and tallied 14 points, while Aaron Amundsen finished in 14th place in 48.15.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Welsh, Connors-McBride, Ellerson and Amundsen claimed third place in the event in a time of 3:06.27.
