Wilmington, DE - Head Coach Lee Saverio and the La Salle University baseball team tallied their first victory of the season defeating Delaware 5-4 today, Tuesday, March 15th. The victory marks the first time La Salle has defeated the Blue Hens since 1989, with Delaware taking the last seven meetings between the two teams.

The Explorers and the Blue Hens entered the eighth inning tied at three when junior George Hudock (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) singled to score senior Ryan Parfit (Flourtown, PA/La Salle) and put La Salle up 4-3.

The Blue Hens then tied the game at four in the bottom of the eighth and found themselves with bases loaded and no outs. La Salle sophomore hurler Gerard Breslin (Havertown, PA/Haverford) got the Explorers out of the inning without giving up the lead.

With one inning to go, the Explorers saw their first victory of the season in their reach. Freshman Grant Harm (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) stepped to the plate as the lead off batter and drilled a ball over the fence to give his team a one run lead in the top of the ninth.

Behind the charge of Breslin the Explorers held the Blue Hens scoreless in the final inning. Breslin pitched the final two innings giving up no hits and striking out three batters.

Harm led La Salle offensiveley going 3-4 from the plate, with his third hit being the homerun that won the game. He also drove in two runs in the victory. Sophomore Billy Kern (Northfield, NJ/Mainland) scored one run in the victory. He had two hits on five at bats, including a double.

The Explorers (1-10-0) will host the Villanova Wildcats in their home opener tomorrow, Wednesday, March 16th at 3:00 p.m. at Hank DeVincent Field.
