Nebraska Transfer Looks to Make Impact

 by Will Hughes
Philadelphia, PA
- Former Nebraska Cornhusker Aaron Burbach is looking forward to his first Spring Ball at La Salle University.  This time last year Aaron, an Iowa native, sat restless at the University of Nebraska while looking for a new place to call home.  After choosing Nebraska over La Salle during his senior high school season, Burbach chose to pursue the dream of every high school football player: a chance to play at the highest level, Division IA football.  After a series of unfortunate events, one of which included the firing of the staff that recruited him at Nebraska, Burbach decided to once again pursue his options at La Salle.  After acquiring his release from Nebraska, Aaron Burbach contacted Head Football Coach, Phil Longo.  He felt La Salle University offered him the best situation both on and off the field.

In addition to having an opportunity to compete much earlier in his college career, Burbach was also drawn to La Salle because of the Communications Department.  After touring the Com-Center where he currently studies Film and Public Relations, Burbach was impressed by the 17 to 1 student to teacher ratio.

Aaron plans to compete for a position as an offensive tackle and his primary goal is to help his Explorer teammates win the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship and rank as one of the best programs in Division IAA Mid-Major football.  He was impressed by the teams' camaraderie and the personal relationships that existed between the players and coaches during his initial recruiting visit.  "I look forward to working with coach Longo and the rest of the staff in our quest for a MAAC Championship," Aaron said recently about the upcoming 2005 season.

At 6'5, 320 lbs. Burbach is no stranger to dwarfing the opposition.  The combination of his size and athletic ability has impressed the coaching staff.  "We are excited about the addition of Aaron Burbach to the football program.  He is as much of a character addition as he is a talent addition", commented Head Football Coach, Phil Longo.  Character and talent, a big combination for a big man.
