Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle University baseball team hosted an early season double-header against the Fordham Rams this afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. They won the first game, 10-0, and the second, 6-1, to improve to 4-1 in the Atlantic 10.
Sophomore Dan Waters (Wyndmoor, PA/La Salle) went the distance in the opener for the complete game, shutout victory. He improves to 2-3 on the season. Waters received ample help from designated hitter Phil Marino (Blackwood, NJ/Highland), who went 3-4 including a deep homer to right field in the bottom of the fourth. Catcher Rich Prall (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) was also 3-4 with 3 RBIs in the opener.
In the second game, the Explorers clung to a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth when they batted around and scored four runs to break the game open. Rightfielder Matt Dunaway (Little Rock, AR/Central Arkansas Christian) reached base all five times he appeared, finishing 3-3 with a pair of walks. Hitting behind him was centerfielder Ryan Parfit (Flourtown, PA/La Salle) who finished 3-5 and also made the play of the year in centerfield when he extended for a full-speed diving catch in the seventh.
Gerard Breslin (Havertown, PA/Haverford) pitched the final three innings to record the save.
The Explorers will return to action on Monday, March 28 when they host Delaware in the Liberty Bell Classic.
