Explorers Beaten By Manhattan

Philadelphia, PA-The La Salle University softball team hosted Manhattan College this afternoon for a non-conference double-header at Good Shepherd Field.  The Explorers lost the first game, 3-1, and the second, 6-1, when the game was called for darkness in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the first game, the Explorers got off to a good start when senior Sarah Punderson (Island Heights, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) launched a solo homer in the bottom of the first.  That lead lasted until the top of the fifth, when the Jaspers scored an unearned run to knot the score at 1-1.  Manhattan then scored two in the top of the sixth to reach the final margin.

Carissa Segura (Santa Maria, CA/Ernest Righetti) pitched all seven innings for La Salle, and allowed only one earned run.  She struck out six.

In the second game, Manhattan used a pair of homers to build a 5-0 lead by the end of the second inning.  They added another in the fourth before La Salle answered with a run in the bottom half when catcher Jennifer Street (Coatesville, PA/Bishop Shannahan) ripped a double into right-center to score Punderson.

Kasey Keating (Fair Oaks, CA/Bella Vista) worked six innings on the mound until the game was called for darkness.  She struck out five.

The Explorers will return to action on Saturday, April 2nd when they travel to face conference rival Saint Joseph's at 2:00 P.M..
