Explorer rowing begins spring season at Murphy Cup

La Salle's men and women's teams competed in ther first race of the spring season.  The Murphy Cup, a 2000 meter race on the Schuylkill River, was held on Saturday March 26.  La Salle was entered in the men's and women's varsity eitght, men's and women's freshman/novice eight, and women's varsity four.

The women's varsity four of Michelle DeLong, Laura Baker, Kellie Nadeau, Rita Brown and coxswain Melanie Charles finished with a teim of 7:59.58 putting them in fourth place in ther heat which was not fast enough to qualify for the final.  They finished behind winner West Virginia.

In women's novice eight, the boat of Sarah Turner, Jessie Lamont, Kani Fralen, Delia Spellman, Tonya Jean-Baptiste, Andrea Bacchus, Jen Sammartino, Sarah Brown, and coxswain Christine Denshuick finished with a time of 7:59.45.  The time placed them in fourth place in their heat qualify for the final.  They finished behind winner Princeton.

Chris Foran, Matt Loftus, Mike Rockwood, Gerry Prodoehl, Joe Scibetta, Tim Brosious, Lou Fair, Matt Sitcoske, and coxswain Francesca Cupo manned the novice eight boat that finished with the time of 6:53.74 putting them in fourth place in their heat moving them to the finals.  At the final, the men finished with a time of 6:50.7 behind first place George Washington.

In the women's varsity eight the boat containing Suzanne Patackis, Kelly Zavertnik, Rose Fisher, Therese Pomeroy, Shauna Goetz, Aimee Nichols, Liz McGrain, Becky Mahney and coxswain Kellie Fagan finished with a time of 7:01.6.  This placed them in fourth place in ther heat which was not fast enough to qualify for the final.  They finished behind first place Villanova.

Finally, in the men's varsity eight, Mark Ricciardi, Sean Ahern, Matt Ryan, Jeff Laird, Bill Lockard, Ryan Fair, Matt Tiedeken, James Keough and coxswain Sara Jones finished with a time of 6:12.02.  This put them in fourth place which was not fast enough to qualify for the final.  They finished behind first place Temple.
