Boca Raton, FL - The Explorers scored six runs in their second match-up of the week against Big East opponent Pittsburgh, but fell to the Panthers 9-5 today, Monday, March 7th.
La Salle freshman Brandon Geib (Lititz, PA/Warwick) started and pitched into the fifth inning before being relieved by fellow freshman Michael Caruso (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West). Caruso struck out six batters in the final four innings of the game.
The Explorers had one of their best games offensively behind seniors Ryan Parfot (Flourtown, PA/La Salle) and Phil Marino (Blackwood, NJ/Highland), sophomore John Vincent (Glen Burnie, MD/Cardinal Gibbons) and freshman Matt Dunaway (Little Rock, AR/Central Arkansas Christian).
Dunaway scored one of La Salle's five runs and also drove a run in as he went 3-5 from the plate and tallied his first stolen base of his collegiate career. Parfit had two hits on four at bats, while Marino scored two runs on 3-4. Vincent was a perfect 2-2 from the plate, he had a triple and scored a run for La Salle.
The Explorers have just two games left in their Florida trip as they play Florida International tomorrow, Tuesday March 8th and then Boston College on the 9th.
