Pair of One-Run Losses For Softball

Kissimmee, FL - The La Salle University softball team dropped two close decisions on their second day at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida.  They were defeated by Yale, 1-0, in the opener, by the University of Maine, 8-7, in the follow-up.

Against Yale, sophomore Nicole Gallagher (Cherry Hill, NJ/Notre Dame) took the hill and pitched six strong innings, allowing only one run on six hits.  But the Explorers were unable to muster any offense, and the Bulldog's RBI single in the fifth was enough for the win.  Junior shortstop Vinnie Caputo (Sarasota Springs, NY/Sarasota Springs) was 2-for-3 in the loss, both singles, and was stranded on second in the top of the sixth.

Against Maine, the Explorers found their stroke and took a 7-4 lead into the seventh inning, but the Black Bears posted four runs in the final frame to escape with an 8-7 victory.

With the losses, the Explorers fall to 0-4 on the season.  They will continue their tour at the Rebel Spring Games today when they face Wagner at 4:00 P.M. and Monmouth at 6:00 P.M..
