Philadelphia, PA - The Explorers scored four first inning runs and added three in the second inning leaving Temple in a comeback situation that it could not fullfil as La Salle defeated the Owls 10-4 in non-conference action today, Tuesday, March 12th.
Four hits equaled four runs in the first inning that ended with sophomore Rich Prall (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) hitting a two run homer for the third and fourth runs. Temple could not answer back and the Explorers just built on their lead in the second inning going up 7-0.
Three of La Salle's four runs in the first inning came with two outs and three runs in the second inning came with two outs for the Explorers. The three runs in the second inning came when freshman Fran O'Kane doubled to center field sending home senior Phil Marino (Blackwood, NJ/Highland), sophomore Billy Kern (Northfield, NJ/Mainland), and freshman Dennis Burge (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West).
The Explorers did not stop there as they went on to score two more runs before Temple scored its first in the seventh inning. La Salle added its final run in the eighth when senior Ryan Parfit (Flourtown, PA/La Salle) singled and made his way around on the throw scoring sophomore Kevin McLoughlin (Philadelphia, PA/La Salle).
The Owls rallied in the top of the ninth scoring three runs, but the Explorers pulled together and managed gain their second straight victory.
Freshman Brandon Geib (Lititz, PA/Warwick) earned the win on the mound for La Salle while fellow freshman Burge came in at relief to earn his first save of the season.
The Explorers will travel to Monmouth this Thursday, April 14th for a 3:30 PM contest.
