Lacrosse Gets Lucky #7 Win Over Lehigh


BETHLEHEM, PA - The La Salle Explorer lacrosse team got win number seven Wednesday night when they handed te Lehigh Mountainhawks a 14-9 loss.  The Explorers now stand above the .500 mark at 7-6, while the Mountainhawks drop to 4-9 for the season.

Senior Kate Henwood (Glen Mills, PA/Garnett Valley) led all scorers with six points, including five goals and one assist.  Junior Kristen Davis (Folsom, PA/Ridley) contributed four goals in La Salle's win.

After over four minutes of stagnant play, Lehigh's Amy Chamberlain (Wayne, PA/Conestoga) scored an unassisted goal to start the scoring.  Henwood answered for La Salle at the 6:43 mark on a free position shot to knot the score at 1-1.  Davis then scored the first of her four goals off a pass from Becky Boudwin (Springfield, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) to put La Salle up 2-1 after 9:39 of play.

Just short of the midway point of the period (14:03), Lehigh's sarah Starsoneck (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) scored to tie the score again.  La Salle's Tiffany Grossi (Ridley Park, Ridley) netted the first of her trio of goals at an even 16:00.  Lehigh again traded goals, with Christy Smith (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) capitalizing on free position shot at the 16:58 mark.  La Salle's Catie Borneman (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) followed suite with a matching free position goal with 12:14 remaining in the period.

Grossi knocked down her second to give La slale a 5-3 advantage with 10:47 to play in the first half.  Starsoneck and Chamberlain scored back-to-back goals for the Mountainhawks at the 21:11 and 21:45 marks to get Lehigh to within one before Davis scored the next two goals for La Salle to close out the half with the Explorers holding a 7-5 lead at the break.

In the second half, Lehigh again got the first goal, this time coming from Barrie Cominsky (Longwood, FL/Lake Brantley).  With the Mountainhawks down just one goal at 7-6, La Salle opened up a scoring drive which ran from the 32:07 - 52:40 mark and saw the Explorers netting six unaswered goals.

With 7:29 to play in the contest, Lehigh's Lissy King (Dover, MA/Rivers) snapped the scoring streak.  Kara Chalanick (Victor, NY/Victor Central) tipped in a solo shot with 2:25 to play, followed by Chamberlain's third goal with less than a minute and a half to play.

Henwood capped off the scoring for both teams with just eight seconds on the scoreboard to seal La Salle's 14-9 victory.

La Salle split the goalkeeping duties with Brittany Friedrich taking the first 30 minutes and allowed five goals while facing 16 shots.  She also registered four saves.  Chantell McCormick finished the game wit four goals against and faced an identical 16 shots while tallying 10 saves.

Lehigh also split the goalkeeping duties, with Kyle Begina (Windsor, CT/Windsor) lasting 20:57 before Brittany Besler (Princeton Junction, NJ/Peddie) took over and allowed La Salle to score nine goals.

After five straight road games, the Explorers will return to McCarthy Stadium for an Atlantic 10 conference match up with St. Bonaventure on Sunday, April 17th at 11:00 a.m.
