Explorers Fall 11-3 to Top Ranked Flyers


Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle University baseball team dropped its second straight to the Dayton Flyers today, Sunday April 17th. The Explorers fell 11-3 in the rubber game dropping them to 13-20 overall and 6-6 in the conference, while top ranked Dayton, currently leading the A-10 west, improves to 22-13 overall and 9-3 in the conference.

The Flyers came out and scored two first inning runs, one earned and one unearned to take an early 2-0 lead. La Salle came out and answered right back with one run of their own when sophomore Billy Kern (Northfield, NJ/Mainland) reached on a fielder's choice and freshman Matt Dunaway (Little Rock, AR/Central Arkansas Christian) scored.

The run by Dunaway would prove to be the only run La Salle scored until the ninth inning when they added two more. The Flyers continued to build leads scoring three more runs in the third and adding two in the fourth to build a 7-1 lead by the bottom of the fourth inning. The next four innings went scoreless, but Dayton scored four ninth inning runs to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

Dunaway scored his second run of the game for La Salle when junior George Hudock (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) struck out swinging, but reached on a wild pitch which sent Dunaway home for La Salle's second run. The final run of the game was scored by La Salle senior Ryan Parfit (Flourtown, PA/La Salle).

Junior Jarrod Ringer (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) started on the mound for La Salle. He pitched into the third inning when freshman Jamie Cowan (Annandale, VA/Bishop Ireton) came in at relief. Cowan struck out five batters in almost five innings and allowed just two runs. Senior lefty Matt Kirsch (West Chester, PA/Archbishop Carroll) came in and got a ground ball for La Salle before freshman Dennis Burge (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) came in to close.

The Explorers will travel to Lehigh this Tuesday, April 19th for a 3:00 PM contest and then to Villanova on Wednesday also a 3:00 PM game before heading to Ohio to face Xavier in Atlantic 10 conference action.
