Philadelphia, PA-The La Salle University softball team is now on a four-game winning streak after sweeping St. Francis College in a non-conference doubleheader at Good Shepherd Field. The Explorers won the first game, 15-4, and the second, 4-3, in extra innings. They have now scored a combined 43 runs in the past four games.
In the opener, La Salle scored all 15 runs in the first three innings. Liz Greenfield (New York, NY/JFK) got things started with a grand-slam in the bottom of the first, and finished the game 3-3 with a HR, two doubles, and 8 RBI. Laura DeZolt (Morrisville, PA/Conwell Egan) was equally effective, going 3-3 with a double and 3 RBI. She also struck out seven to record her fifth victory of the season.
Game two wasn't so easy. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh and the Explorers trailing 3-2, Liz Greenfield hit a clutch single to score Kathy Hennessey (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) and tie the game 3-3. They then won it in the bottom of the eighth when catcher Jen Street (Coatsville, PA/Bishop Shanahan) advanced home on a double-steal.
Carissa Segura (Santa Maria, CA/Ernest Righetti) earned the victory for La Salle, her fourth of the season. She struck out seven.
The Explorers will play their final home game of the season tomorrow, Wednesday, April 27th when they host Drexel at Good Shepherd Field. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 3:00 P.M..
