Amherst, MA-The La Salle University softball team kicked off its final trip of the season this weekend as they took on conference foe UMass at the UM Softball Complex. They dropped the first game, 15-1, in five innings, and the second, 3-0.
In game one, the Explorers were roughed up for all 15 runs in the first three innings. Pitcher Laura DeZolt (Morrisville, PA/Conwell Egan) took the loss, allowing 9 earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. She was relieved by Kasey Keating (Fair Oaks, CA/Bella Vista), who completed the final 2.1.
La Salle's lone run came on a home run by shortstop Vinnie Caputo (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) in the third. It was her fifth of the season.
Game two was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when UMass freshman Lauren Proctor launched a two-run home run to right field. Those were the only earned runs pitcher Carissa Segura (Santa Maria, CA/Ernest Righetti) allowed all day, and they proved to be the difference as La Salle was never able to get on track offensively.
