Washington, D.C. - The George Washington University swept the Explorers in a double header Saturday, May 14th at George Washington. The Colonials won the first game 11-8 and basically crushed La Salle's play-off hopes winning the third of the three game series 1-0.
La Salle freshman Craig Mushko (Northampton, PA/Northampton) started on the mound in game one of the double header. He pitched into the fourth inning and struck out two batters and walked none before senior Anthony Boscaglia (Vineland, NJ/Sacred Heart) and sophomore Gerard Breslin (Havertown, PA/Haverford) came in at relief.
The Colonials took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Explorers answered back and scored two runs in the second and three in the third to take a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning. The Colonials took the lead back scoring three runs in the bottom of the third, but La Salle again answered with three runs to go back up 8-6, but the Colonials evened the score with two fourth inning runs to tie the game at eight heading into the fifth inning. George Washington then scored three runs in the sixth inning and won the game 11-8.
La Salle senior Ryan Parfit (Flourtown, PA/La Salle) was 2-4 from the plate. He scored two runs and drove in four off a double and a homerun. The double is his 12th of the season which brings his career total to 43, making him third all-time in La Salle history in doubles in a career. Parfit is leading the team in doubles this season.
La Salle junior Jarrod Ringer (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) started on the mound in game two and pitched a complete game giving up just one run and striking out four batters. The Colonials however scored the only run of the game and walked away with their second 1-0 victory of the series.
The Explorers fall to 17-30 overall with the losses and 8-13 in the Atlantic 10 conference and will travel to the University of Massachusetts for the final games of the season this weekend.
