Towson, MD - The Towson Tigers shut out the Explorers 5-0 in La Salle's last non-conference game of the season. The loss drops La Salle to 17-32 overall, but with three conference games remaining the Explorers play-off hopes are still alive.
The Explorers tallied just four hits in the game led by senior Phil Marino (Blackwood, NJ/Highland) who went 2-3 from the plate. Sophomore John Vincent (Glen Burnie, MD/Cardinal Gibbons) and junior Mike Essery (Havertown, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) were the only other Explorers to gain hits in the loss.
La Salle senior Anthony Boscaglia (Vineland, NJ/Sacred Heart) started on the mound and pitched into the third inning. Freshmen Jamie Cowan ((Annandale, VA/Bishop Ireton) and Dennis Burge (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) came in at relief and pitched the final six plus innings without giving up a run.
The Explorers travel to the University of Massachusetts Friday, May 20th and Saturday, May 21st for their final conference games of the regular season. If La Salle sweeps the Minutemen and Saint Joseph's sweeps Duquesne then the Explorers will make their first conference appearance under head coach Lee Saverio.
