Philadelphia, PA - La Salle University head women's basketball coach Tom Lochner has added Stacey Smalls to his coaching staff. Smalls will join Chrissie Doogan and Mimi Riley as assistants on Lochner's staff.
"Stacey is an enthusiastic and bright young coach who will transfer her competitive nature as a player to a successful future in coaching. She will be a terrific asset to our coaching staff, especially with the skill development of our guards, said Lochner on the hiring of Smalls. "She is also familiar with the Atlantic 10 as she had a successful playing career and was a team captain under Coach Dawn Staley at Temple University."
Smalls is a 2003 graduate of Temple University where she was a four year member of the basketball team under Staley. During her undergrad time as an Owl she worked camps at both Temple University and at Norristown High School. She also interned at both the Dawn Staley Foundation and Staley 5 where she helped organize basketball clinics and aided in the development of a girls summer league.
"Stacey will have an immediate impact at La Salle," said Staley. "She's given us so much throughout her time at Temple and I am quite sure she will continue to make us all proud."
Smalls also has professional basketball experience, having played for the Birmingham Power of the National Women's Basketball League. During her tenure with the Power she led the team in minutes played and assists as the starting point guard.
Since the beginning of her collegiate career at Temple Smalls has been very active in the community and worked closely with children at basketball camps and most recently as a case manager for the Philadelphia Youth Services Agency.
While at La Salle Smalls will aide Riley in guard development. She will also be in charge of the tape exchange and all community service activities for the Explorers as well as assist with recruiting.
