Posted by: Marc Mullen

OCEAN CITY, NJ - In its only exhibition game of the 2005 season, the La Salle University women's soccer team defeated the Seton Hall Pirates, 4-3. The game consisted of three 30 minute periods.

Seton Hall jumped out to a quick lead, with junior Katie Pfister notching the first goal 12:30 into the first period. Sophomore Ashley Reinecke extended the lead to two off an assist from classmate Kristen Ponichtera at the 21 minute mark.

With less than a minute to go in the first period, La Salle freshman Traci DePasquale (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) cut the Explorer deficit to one when she found the back of the net.

Seton Hall jumped back to a two-goal lead at 3-1, when junior Beth Troutman scored one minute into the second period for the Pirates final tally of the game.

Senior co-captain Alexis Petrucci (Abington, PA/Bishop McDevitt) scored at the 14 minute mark of the second period and the Explorers knotted the game at 3-3 when junior Lisa Genna (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) scored 11 minutes later.

The Explorers notch the winning goal when junior Heather Barclay (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) scored off a direct kick from 18 yards out 22 minutes into the final period.

"I was very pleased with the teams' ability to fight back from two goals down twice in the game to get the result," said Head Coach Paul Royal.

The Explorers will open their season this coming weekend when they visit Villanova, Friday, August 26 with a 4 PM start, and then travel to Navy, Sunday, August 28 with a 1 PM start.
