Posted by: Sue Senner

HEMPSTEAD, NY - For the second time in as many days, the La Salle Explorer field hockey team took to Shuart Stadium on Hofstra's campus and the result was the same, this time, the Explorers suffered a 3-1 loss to host Hofstra.

Hofstra got on the scoreboard first, with Leslie DeSimone converting a penalty corner into a goal at the 10:12 mark of the contest.  The Explorers took a bit to answer back, but with time winding down in the first half, senior Emily Simone deflected a pass from Allison Geiger to net La Salle's first goal of the 2005 season.

In the second half, it was all Hofstra, as the tandem of Pemba Ramdoo and Kara McEneaney teamed up for Ramdoo's two goals at 48:54 and again at the 61:30 mark to lift Hofstra to a 3-1 advantage.

La Salle goalkeeper Ellen Axelsen logged 70 minutes in goal and tallied five saves for the Explorers.  In the cage for Hofstra, Jessica Cowperthwait also controlled the goal for 70 minutes and earned six saves.

La Salle posted a 10-5 advantage on penalty corners for the contest.

The Explorers will have the week off to prepare for contests against Southwest Missouri and Louisville on September 3rd and 4th.  Both games will be held at Louisville with Saturday's contest tipping off at 2:00 pm followed by Sunday's game at 1:00 p.m.
