Explorers Earn 3-1 Win Over St. Peter's

BALTIMORE, MD - The La Salle Explorer volleyball team improved its record to 5-2 with a 3-1 victory of the St. Peter's Peahens at UMBC's RAC Arena on Saturday afternoon.  The Explorers earned the victory with scores of 30-19, 27-30, 30-23, 30-18.  The loss dropped the Peahens to 2-4.

 

La Salle was led by Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Christa Dominick, who posted a match-high 18 kills, and continued her solid hitting percentage with a .607 for the match.  Dominick posted a hitting line of 18 kills, one error and 28 attempts.

 

The Explorers saw four players record 10 or more kills, including Stephanie Owen with 16.  The senior duo of Abby Means and Kara Branz also posted impressive hitting percentages, with Means knocking down 12 kills on 21 attempts with one error for a .524 percentage.  Branz, meanwhile, landed seven kills on 15 attempts with no errors for a .467 hitting percentage.  Junior Brittany Hanley rounded out La Salle's offensive punch with 10 kills.  Junior setter Caitlin Conner tallied 54 assists on La Salle's 70 kills.

 

Libero Carolyn Judge posted a match-high 23 digs on defense for the Explorers.  At the next, Owen tallied five blocks, including one solo and four assisted, while Branz earned one solo and three assisted blocks.

 

The Peahens were led by Serra Soylu with 12 kills, followed by Tara Teslaa with 11 and Gulhan Cakcak with 10.  Setter Alma Qose tallied 31 assists for St. Peter's.

 

The Explorers will be in action again at 3:00 p.m. when they take on host UMBC to close out the tri-match.
