Posted by: Sue SennerTOWSON, MD - The La Salle Explorer field hockey team continued its grueling road schedule on Friday afternoon at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium. The Explorers have played all eight games this season on the road and added a 2-0 loss to the Tigers to their record, which now stands at 2-6. Towson improved to a near perfect 6-1 for the season.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard seven minutes into the game when Gabbie Mink scored on a shot from the left side. Despite attempting six shots in the half, the Explorers held Towson to one goal going into the break.
In the second half, Emily Swartz added a goal to the Tigers tally just 1:51 into the period to ensure Towson a win.
The Explorers struggled on offense, managing just two shots in the contest.
Goalkeeper Ellen Axelsen posted six saves in 70 minutes guarding the cage. Towson split the goalkeeping duties between Christina Armer and Michelle Cheek, who combined for the Tigers fourth shutout of the 2005 season.
The Explorers will bring their road trip closer to home this Tuesday when they visit the Drexel Dragons at 3:30 p.m.
