Fairfax, Va. - The George Mason Patriots became the first team to put a goal past La Salle freshman goalkeeper Dan Pfeiffer, who hadn't allowed a goal in his first two collegiate appearances. George Mason's Teba McKnight stormed in on goal on a breakaway in the second minute of the contest and his shot hit the post and went in. In the 24th minute, Mason's Jonathan Borrajo found the back of the net to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead.

McKnight struck again in the 44th minute, with an assist from Josh Fleming. La Salle's Jeremy Ortiz, returning after missing three games with an ankle injury, set up teammate James Guntle in the 59th minute to avoid the shutout, but that was the only goal the Explorers, who were outshot 20-7, could muster.

Pfeiffer made eight saves while his counterpart, Eric Barnes, made one.

The Explorers return to action on Sept. 28 when they visit Villanova at 3:00 p.m.
