Posted by: Sue SennerPHILADELPHIA, PA - In their third match of the 2005 La Salle Invitational, the La Salle Explorers improved their record to a perfect 4-0 after defeating the Fairleigh Dickinson Knight 3-1 at Tom Gola Arena.
Sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Owen (Burlington, WI/Burlington) topped the Explorers offense with 15 kills on 33 attempts, enroute to posting a .364 hitting percentage. Junior Kristen Kelsey (Buda, TX/Jack C. Hays) was the only other Explorer to finish with double-digit kills, as she landed 10 on the Knights. Setter Caitlin Conner (Willow Springs, IL/Lyons Township) assisted on 46 of La Salle's 56 kills.
On defense, libero Carolyn Judge (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan) tallied a team-high 19 digs, while Owen, Conner and Kelsey contributed 14, 13 and 12 respectively.
The Knights got an offensive jolt from Lauren Boothby and Elena Schmidt who each knocked down a match-high 18 kills. Rebecca Tenney contributed 15 for FDU in the loss.
Libero Lauren Lombardo turned in a match-high 23 digs.
The Explorers will have a brief rest before playing their final match of the Invitational at 4:30 p.m. when they take on the Bucknell Bison.
