Comstock Scores Goal in 6-1 Loss to #15 Villanova

Posted by: Sue SennerVILLANOVA, PA - The road weary La Salle Explorer field hockey team traveled to Villanova to take on the 15th ranked Wildcats at Villanova Stadium Friday night.  After 70 minutes of play, the Explorers fell to Villanova 6-1 to fall to 2-9 for the season, while the Wildcats improved to 9-2.

Villanova did not waste much time scoring it first goal, as Rory Rogers dribbled the ball down the center, drawing La Salle goalkeeper Ellen Axelsen out of the net which opened up a scoring opportunity for Megan Foster  just two minutes into the game.  Foster then scored her second goal of the night off of a rebound from Roger's shot to go ahead by two.

La Salle answered with a goal in the 23rd minute by Amy Comstock, who scored off of a penalty corner.  Comstrock's goal proved to be the Explorers only point of the game.  Before the halftime break, Rogers netted a goal after sneaking the ball past Axelsen during a scramble before the teams went to the locker rooms.

In the second half, Allison Boris tallied back to back goals in the 41st and 42nd minutes with Sara Schmidt and Rogers on the assists.  Villanova forward Lauren Campanelli the night off for the Wildcats off of a penalty corner from Foster.

Axelsen tallied six saves in goal for the Explorers and Villanova goalkeeper Erin Scott earned the win for the Wildcats with one save. The Explorers attempted six shots and were awarded three penalty corners, while Villanova was also able to take fifteen shots and nine penalty corners.
