Posted by: Marc MullenBETHLEHEM, PA - The road woes continued for the La Salle Women's Soccer team Wednesday night, as the Explorers dropped their fourth game of the season, losing to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 2-0, at Ulrich Sports Complex.
The Explorers, who have yet to play a home game at McCarthy Stadium, have lost all their games played outside the Philadelphia area - their lone win, a 3-1 victory at Drexel.
Lehigh (4-0), contrastly, is off to its best start in the history of the program. The Mountain Hawks have posted shutouts in each of those wins, 365 consecutive minutes, with freshman goalie Julie Kafka recording her third shutout Wednesday night.
The Explorers escaped an early deficit when Lehigh junior Gina Lewandowski's penalty kick hit the crossbar in the 15th minute of play.
However, just three minutes later, sophomore Jen Fetsick netted a goal off a cross from senior Melissa Montalvo. They made it 2-0 in the 58th minute when senior Megan Edwards found junior Daniela Molina, who scored from the top of the 18-yard box.
Kafka made seven saves to earn the victory in net, while the Explorers started freshman Lauren Malizia (Richmond, VA/The Steward School) for the first time. She faced 19 shots, turning away 13.
La Salle (1-4) next travels to West Virginia this weekend to take part in the Marshall Tournament. The Explorers face Marshall, Friday at 7 PM, and then take on Morehead State, Sunday at 11 AM.
