PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle field hockey team made it two wins in-a-row after claimining a 4-1 victory over the Rhode Island Rams on Friday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. Senior
Jillian Moser tallied a hat trick to give the Explorers the win and boost their overall record to 6-11 and Atlantic 10 record to 2-3. Rhode Island slips to 6-7 overall and matches La Salle's conference record of 2-3.
The Explorers controlled the game from the beginning, keeping the ball at Rhode Island's end of the field for much of the first half. At the 9;16 mark of the contest, Amy Comstock passed the ball to Laura Farley who then tipped the ball to Moser which led to La Salle's first goal of the afternoon. Just over a minute later, at the 10:19 mark, Allison Geiger took the ball straight down the middle of the cage and put La Salle up 2-0.
With the game in La Salle's control, Rhode Island was forced to call at time-out with 22:02 remaining in the half. The regrouping efforts proved useless, as the Explorers continued to dominate the offense.
Rhode Island finally created a scoring opportunity with 8:55 to go before the intermission, as Jill Powers scored what proved to be the Rams' lone goal of the game.
After the break, La Salle kept the offensive pressure up, although Rhode Island did see a bit more action in front of the Explorers' cage, but nothing to put the game in jeopardy for La Salle. With 18:12 to play, Moser connected on a pass from Lechner and dropped in her second of the afternoon. Moser wasn't done with her scoring, and at the 64:12 she tipped in her third goal of the game and posted her second three-goal game of ther career.
Goalkeepr Ellen Axelsen posted a pair of saves in each half, while Rhode Island goalkeeper M.J. Britt tallied seven saves and faced 14 shots, with 11 on goal.
The Explorers will try for three straight wins on Sunday, when they host the Massachusetts Minutewomen at Hank DeVincent Field at 12:00 p.m.
