Hextall Scores Twice; Explorers Advance To A-10 Championships

WASHINGTON, DC - Junior forward Kristin Hextall scored twice, including the game-winner with less than six minutes left in double overtime, to lift the La Salle Women's Soccer team to a 2-1 victory over George Washington Saturday afternoon in Atlantic 10 action.

The victory, coupled with losses Friday night, advance the Explorers into the A-10 Championships for only the third time in school history, but the second time in the last three seasons. La Salle currently has 19 points and sits in the third spot in the standings. Matches on Sunday will determine the final seedings and whom La Salle will face in the playoffs, which begin Thursday at 5 PM in Saint Louis.

The Explorers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Hextall tallied with a header off a free kick by junior Jenna Guagenti at the 8:02 mark of the first half. It was the fourth goal of the season for Hextall and Guagenti's third assist of the year.

George Washington (9-10-0, 2-7-0 A-10) managed to tie the game in the 66th minute when Lauren Kelly scored unassisted. The score remained tied at 1-1 from then and through the first 14 minutes of overtime.

The scoring duo of Guagenti to Hextall connected again for the game-winner in the 105th minute. Sophomore Dana Giordano was also credited with an assist on the goal that Hextall drilled into the back of the net.

For Hextall, it was her 16th career goal, which places her tied for seventh in a career at the school, and her 43rd career point, which is good for eighth. It was also her eighth career game-winner, the third of the season.

In net for La Salle was Amy Grant, who won her seventh game of the year. Colonials' Amie Kern took the loss. In all, the Explorers outshot GW 12-6 and held a 12-2 advantage in corners.

La Salle (9-9-1, 6-2-1 A-10) now waits for results from Sunday to see who they will face and when on Thursday in the first round of the A-10 playoffs.
