Explorers Fall to 1-3 in A-10 After Loss to Richmond

Posted by: Steve Mair

RICHMOND, VA - Despite aggressive play from the defense, La Salle (5-7-1) could not keep the Richmond Spiders (6-5-2) out of the net on Sunday and eventually lost  2-0.

After keeping the score at 0-0 for a majority of the first half, Andrew Bernhard (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) finally allowed one to go by late in the 37th minute to give Richmond a 1-0 lead.

As the first half went into its final minutes, Jeremy Ortiz (Mount Laure, NJ/Lenape) would make a nice goal, but it would end up being negated by a handball foul that cost them the tying shot.  The first period ended with a score of 1-0 Richmond.

The second half was spent volleying the ball back and forth, with no goals coming until nine minutes before the end of the game.  After Richmond shot the ball towards an overcrowded goal it was deflected off an Explorer and rolled into the net.

The Explorers ran hard for the remaining minutes, coming close a number of times but would eventually run out of minutes as Richmond took the final score 2-0.

La Salle looks for their 6th win of the season next weekend as they go on the road for the third time in a row, this time against A-10 opponent St. Bonaventure (0-9-1) at 3:30 on Sunday.
