Posted by: Sue SennerNEWARK, DE - The La Salle Explorer women's swimming and diving team took on the Delaware Blue Hens on Saturday afternoon at Delaware and fell by a score of 146.92. The Explorers now own a 2-3 record for the season.
Two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Shannon Duval continued her record breaking performances, this time against Delaware. After breaking the 100 and 200 breaststroke records twice, Duval set a new school record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:07.80. Duval broke the previous record of 2:09.16 set by Marlana Root in 2002. In the 500-yard freestyle event, Duval swan a 5:07.99 also good for a first place finish.
Diver Katie Gifford finished second behind Delaware's Sarah Bergan in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Giffrod finished the 3-meter event with a score of 192.23, just 3.07 points short of Bergan's 195.30 points. In the 1-meter event, Bergan tallied 195.68 points to Gifford's 188.70.
Carleen Caldwell posted a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 54.58.
The Explorers swept the 200 breaststroke event with Rachel Sheridan taking the top spot with a time of 2:33.69, Mallory Kessler finishing second with a time of 2:34.05 followed by Lindsay Higginson in third with a time of 2:52.00.
The Explorers will return home to Kirk Pool on Tuesday afternoon when they host the Penn Quakers at 5:00 p.m.
