PHILADELPHIA, PA - La Salle field hockey senior
Allison Geiger (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) was one of five players to pick up end of the season Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors, in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches.
Honored as an All-Conference first-team member, Geiger, a 5-7 midfield, was a starter in all 20 games for this season for the Explorers. She finished the season with seven points, including three goals and one assist. Geiger attempted 44 shots for the season, including 23 shots on goal. Geiger scored goals in the first two games of the season against Appalachian State and at Drexel in addition to assisting on a goal in a 3-2 loss to the Dragons. Against Atlantic 10 opponent Rhode Island, Geiger scored the game-winning goal in a 4-3 decision.
Joining Geiger in picking up conference honors was fellow senior Amy Comstock (Orangeville, PA/Benton) who was named to the All-Conference second-team. Comstock started in 19 of 20 games in the Blue and Gold. She attempted 24 shots, including 20 shots on goal and finished the season with 14 points, including six goals and two assists. Comstock knocked in goals against Drexel, Robert Morris and Monmouth before posting the game-winner in a 1-0 decision against Lehigh. She closed out her collegiate career scoring one goal in each of the last two games against West Chester and Delaware.
Rounding out the Conference honorees is freshman Kara Harpel (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest). Harpel was chosen for the All-Rookie team after competing in all 20 games and getting a start in 10. She finished her freshman campaign with 12 points after scoring six goals for the Explorers. Enroute to six goals, Harpel attempted 17 shots, including 15 on goal. Harpel kicked off her collegiate career netting the game-winning goal in the season opener against Appalachian State. She went on to score a goal against Robert Morris, Lafayette and West Chester. Harpel tipped in two goals in an Atlantic match-up with Massachusetts.
Joining Harpel on the All-Rookie team is fellow freshman Kelly Dougherty (Devon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) earning a spot after starting in all 20 games for the season. Attempting 13 shots for the season, Dougherty marked eight shots on goal and earned six points for the year after scoring two goals. Like Geiger, Comstock and Harpel, Dougherty also scored a game-winning goal, knocking in the only goal of the game against Atlantic 10 rival Saint Joseph's. Dougherty also tallied a goal against Monmouth on September 13th.
Rounding out La Salle's All-Conference honorees, goalkeeper Ellen Axelsen was chosen as an All-Conference honorable mention. Axelsen was a starter in all 20 games for La Salle and controlled the cage for all but 30:29 minutes for the season. Stopping 130 shots in 20 games, Axelsen finished the season with a .751 save percentage and allowed 43 goals while recording a 2.14 goals against average.
The Explorers will welcome back Harpel, Dougherty and Axelsen for the 2007 season.
