Posted by: Marc Mullen

Crista Ricketts was held to just 11 points.

Morgan Robertson added six points and four rebounds.

HAMDEN, CT - The La Salle University Women's Basketball team dropped its first road contest of the year, a 66-46 decision to the Quinnipiac Bobcats, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Burt Kahn Court. The loss ended the Explorers six-game road winning streak and extended Quinnipiac's home winning streak, which now stands at 14.

The only thing colder than the temperature in the gym was the Explorers shooting, as they hit just 16-of-57 (28.1%) from the floor, which included just 1-of-9 from three, and converted just 13-of-23 (56.5%) from the foul line.

The Explorers had two players, junior Carlene Hightower (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) and senior Crista Ricketts (Douglasville, PA/Daniel Boone), score 36 of their points, as Hightower had a game-high 25 points and seven rebounds and Ricketts ended with 11 points.

Quinnipiac had four players reach double figures, led by Erin Kerner's 14 and Mandy Pennewell's 12, and shot 42.1% for the game. They also converted 14-of-16 free throws, 13 in the second half.

In the game's first 10 minutes, neither team could shake the other, as the Bobcats held the only significant lead to that point of just four. After junior Melanie Gibbons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) converted her second foul shot the score was tied a 15-15 with 9:36 left in the first half.

Quinnipiac (8-1) then tallied the next 12 points and used a 16-2 run overall to jump out to a 31-17 lead with less than four minutes left before the intermission, as Pennewell and Kerner each scored five points in the span.

The Explorers held the Bobcats off the scoreboard from that point until the half, as they went into the break scoring six straight points, four by freshman Morgan Robertson (Amarillo, TX/Amarillo) to get the deficit back to eight.

In the second half, the Bobcats quickly got their lead back to double figures and pushed it to 20 with 10 minutes left in the game. La Salle would never get as close as 18 the rest of the way.

La Salle (8-2) returns to Tom Gola Arena for three straight home dates, starting with a Wednesday, Dec. 20 game with Miami (OH) with a 1 PM tip.
