Duval Sets Meet and School Records at Nutmeg Invitational

NEW HAVEN CT. - The La Salle University women's swimming team competed at the Nutmeg Invitational hosted by Yale University.  The unscored meet featured Bridgeport, CW Post, Central Connecticut State, Fordham, Syracuse, Williams and host Yale.  

Freshman Shannon Duval broke the Nutmeg Invitational record in the 200-yard freestyle event and the 200-yard breaststroke.  Duval also set the La Salle school record in the 100 breaststroke recording a first place finish with a time of 1:04.79.  In the 200 free Duval crossed the finish line with the new meet record of 1:53.50 and in the 200 breast posted a winning time of 2:20.36.  Duval closed out the meet with a second place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing with a time of 2:08.52.  

The 400-yard medley relay team captured a second place finish with a time of 4:04.49.  

Other top finishers for La Salle included Carleen Caldwell claiming a 5th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 25.04.  Melanie Charles swam to a sixth place finish with a time of 1:02.72 in the 100-yard breaststroke.  Mallory Kessler matched Charles' sixth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 4:04.49.  

The Explorers will return to action on Friday, January 12th and Saturday, January 13th when they take part in the Rhode Island Invitational.
