Coach Catlin raises roof on Habitat for Humanity home outside New Orleans.

- Head field hockey coach Sarah Catlin returned to La Salle after spending a week in Thibadaux, Louisiana working to build houses for Hurricane Katrina victims through Habitat for Humanity.

Catlin was one of 35 Habitat for Humanity volunteers working in conjunction with a dozen AmeriCorps. volunteers and displaced Hurricane Katrina victims in building 35 houses outside New Orleans.

Catlin worked alongside four-five displaced families putting in 400 hours as part of their agreement to purchase the houses from Habitat for Humanity. Putting her muscles in motion, Catlin helped with roofing installation and roof raising.  "It was a humbling experience", said Catlin, "Something I did for a week and left, but this is their life." (referring to Katrina victims)

No stranger to the Habitat for Humanity scene, Catlin spent time with her family working in Connecticut two years ago.  "I would encourage anyone and everyone to look into volunteering.  A rewarding experience it is also a lot of fun."  Catlin says she looks forward to volunteering for Habitat for Humanity in the future.

Volunteering in Louisiana helps Catlin keep on track with her team, which is very involved in Community Service activities.
