Posted by: Sue SennerBUFFALO, NY - The men's swimming and diving team kicked off the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship Wednesday afternoon at the Flickinger Center in Buffalo, NY. After five events, the Explorers are in third place with 87 points behind UMass (115) and St. Bonaventure (114).
La Salle claimed gold in the 800-freestyle relay in a time of 6:46.25. Swimming for the Explorers' were juniors Matt Ainsworth and Sean Connors-McBride, sophomore John Welsh and senior Emir Hubijar.
Diver Karo Isajan finished second in the 1-meter event, with 557.50 points. Isajan was the runner-up to Massachusetts' RJ Rappe who took the first place honors with 615.15. Both Isajan and Rappe surpassed the previous A-10 record of 554.15 set by Fordham's Paul Delo in 1997.
The Atlantic 10 swimming and diving championships resume Thursday morning at 10:30. Doors open at the Flickinger Center at 9:15.
