Welsh Finishes Second in 50-Free at A-10's

BUFFALO, NY - On the second day of competition for the men at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships at the Flickinger Center, the Explorers finished the day in third place with 173 points, finishing behind Massachuseetts (251.5) and St. Bonaventure (212).

 

It was a lucky seventh place performance for Grant Chin, who crossed the finish line with a time of 1:55.05, good for 12 points for La Salle.  Teammate Jack McCaffery competed in the B heat and placed 12th overall with a time of 1:55.41, adding five points to the Explorers' standing.

 

In the 50-yard freestyle event, John Welsh captured the silver after racing to the finish line with a time of 21.02.  Chris Cefalo contributed two points in the event with a 15th place finish with a time of 21.80.

 

Emir Hubijar also got in on the scoring, grabbing 11 points in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 4:41.15, good for eighth place.

 

La Salle closed out the second day of competition with a fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.  The team of Welsh, Sean Connors-McBride,  Kevin Whelan, and Chris Cefalo clocked a time of 1:25.03, good for 30 points.

 

The Explorers will return to action for two sessions on Friday at the Flickinger Center.
