Posted by: Sue SennerBUFFALO, NY - On the first day of women's competition at the 2006 Atlantic 10 swimming & diving competition, the Explorers finished the day in 8th place with 96 points. The competition takes place at the Flickinger Center.
Diver Katie Gifford eardned a second place finish in the 1-meter event, finishing the competition with 473.30 pointsnd earning 17 points for Lalle.
In the 500-yard freestyle event, Jamie Polek tallied 11 points after placing eighth with a time of 5:07.33. Polek turned in a preliminary time of 5:05.85, which marked a seventh place finish.
Freshman Carleen Caldwell, La Salle's leader all season in th 50-yard freestyle posted 12 points to the Explorers' total with a seventh place finish with a time of 24.75.
La Salle's 200-yard freestyle relay team finished in seventh place with a time of 1:39.59. The team consisted of Caldwell, Polek, Shannon Halleran and anchor Melanie Charles.
The Explorers will return for the second day of action at the Flickinger Center on Friday.
