Explorers Downed at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle University lacrosse team traveled to nearby Drexel on Wednesday afternoon to take on the previuously undefeated Dragons at Vidas Field.  In the end, Drexel kept its win streak in tact, defeating La Salle 12-4 and improving to 5-0 overall, with the Explorers falling to 1-5.

Drexel sprinted ahead in the first 10 minutes of the game as the Dragons scored four times against a reeling La Salle defense.  After mounting a 5-0 lead, the Dragons scoring was stopped when sophomore Emily Bonczek snapped La Salle's scoring drought with 6:23 to play in the first half.  The Dragons'  Kerry Kelly answered with her second goal of the game before Catie Borneman netted La Salle's second goal of thecontest on a free position shot with just seven seconds remaining to close the deficit to just 6-2 at the break.

Drexel's offense came out of halftime ready to put the game away as the Dragons scored the game's next six goals to open up a 10-goal lead at 12-2. Kelly scored three of her goals while Katie Bradley  registered two of her game-high three assists in the run. La Salle closed out the game's scoring with a pair of goals in the last 1:37 of the contest.  Co-captain Kristen Davis assisted on both goals, one by senior Nicole Sunderland and thew other by fellow classmate Kat Prokop.

Goalkeeper  Brittany Friedrich made nine saves for the Explorers.

La Salle will return home this Saturday to host the Longwood Lancers at McCarthy Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
