WILMINGTON, NC - The La Salle University Baseball team, searching for its first win of the season, dropped a 16-1 decision to the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks, Saturday afternoon at Brooks Field.

After the Explorers took leads of 2-0 and 4-1 in Friday's game, the Seahawks gave La Salle no hope in entering the win column today, as they held the Explorers off the scoreboard through seven innings.

UNC-Wilmington (9-3) scored one run in the first, and two in the second, before exploding for six runs in the third and five in the sixth as they opened up a 14-run lead.

La Salle (0-5) plated its only run in the top of the eighth inning, when freshman Charlie Wohlrab hit an RBI double scoring sophomore John Rickards.

Rickards ended the game 2-for-4, while both senior Rich Prall and freshman Mike Dertouzos went 2-for-3. On the mound, sophomore Dennis Burge (0-2) suffered the loss, after allowing seven runs in just two innings.

For the Seahawks, Bradley Holt (1-1) threw five innings of shutout ball, while striking out seven batters. Daniel Hargrave, who enjoyed a 4-for-5 day with five RBI and two runs, and Matt Poulk, who was 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs, each hit home runs for UNC-Wilmington.

The Explorers will finish their three-game series with the Seahawks, Sunday with a game at 2 PM, before taking on Campbell Monday at 3 PM for a doubleheader.
