- The La Salle University lacrosse team opened the 2006 Atlantic 10 conference season on Saturday afternoon at Saint Joseph's Finnesey Field.  Despite a close game, the Hawks managed to claim a 13-10 victory, as the Explorers drop to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference.  Saint Joseph's improves to 3-4.

La Salle opened the scoring 5:41 into the contest, when Emily Bonczek netted an unassisted goal.  The Hawks answered with back-to-back goals, before Mara Sardella knocked in a shot with 15:31 to play in the half.  Freshman Ann Anderson gave the Explorers a 3-2 advantage at the 15:19 mark of the contest.

Saint Joseph's opened up the game with back-to-back goals from Kerry O'Connell at 16:42 and 17:01, followed by three additional Hawks goals, giving Saint Joseph's a 7-3 lead.

The Explorers would not end the half quiet, as Kristen Davis registered a goal with 52 seconds remaining and freshman Nicole Shubert scored as time expired to leave the halftime score at 7-5.

After the intermission, the Explorers posted goals by Catie Borneman and Tiffany Grossi to tie the contest at 7-7.  Saint Joseph's Jessica Westlake retaliated with back-to-back goals to put the Hawks up 9-7 before Maura Kenville connected on a pass from Erika Matthews and a second goal by Shubert to again knot the score, this time at 9-9.

It was all Saint Joseph's the remainder of the game, with the Hawks scoring four straight goals.  Borneman closed out the scoring with 52 seconds remaining to put the final score at 13-10.

On defense, Kenville and Grossi led the Explorers with four ground balls each. 

La Salle was out shot 21-28 and fell short in groundballs 18-28.  La Salle goalkeeper Chanetelle McCormick competed 60 minutes and recorded seven saves.

The Explorers will continue on the road, taking on the Duquesne Dukes in Atlantic 10 conference match up on Friday, April 7th at 4:00 p.m.
