Softball Salvages Split With Saint Joseph's

EAST NORRITON, PA - After dropping game one of an Atlantic 10 doubleheader to Saint Joseph's 3-1, the La Salle softball team came back in game two to take away a win in eight innings by a score of 3-2.

In game one, La Salle jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Danielle Signorelli scored on a RBI single by Michelle Sullivan. From there, Saint Joseph's pitcher Lauren Cognigni shut down the Explorers, allowing only two base runners over the final six innings. The Hawks used a three-run sixth to take the lead.

Cognigni, who struck out nine Explorers in game one and 11 in game two, earned the win, while Laura Dezolt took the loss for La Salle. DeZolt struck out three and allowed only four hits.

In game two, after the Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the fourth, DeZolt got the Explorers on the board with a two-run homer in the sixth. In the top of the eighth, Teddi Hernandez got on with a one-out double and came around to score on an error on the shortstop on a ball hit by Kelli Curcio.

Lea Corcoran earned the win for La Salle, with two strikeouts in eight innings of work. Lauren Hughes took the loss for the Hawks.

The Explorers' record now stands at 12-29 (2-14 A-10) as they head into another conference doubleheader at Temple on Sunday, April 30 at noon.
